Ok well my website is finished, maybe not in the sense that its complete, but maybe more in the sense that I have given up on it. I wanted it to be awesome, but I’ll be honest, it does have its flaws. However, I am at the point now, strung-out on lack of food and sleep, with stress pulsing through my veins, that I really don’t care that it isn’t perfect. I’m sure there are a lot of easier ways to construct my page than the way I did it, and I will continue to research web design and learn those ways. As for the moment, time is my enemy and it has run out. My page works enough for you to get the idea, which I am happy with at the moment. What I have learned so far in web design is invaluable, and gives me the desire to further my knowledge. I just have to work on my time management this holidays.
I hate coding web pages, because coding web pages hates me. I like learning how to put web pages together, but as far as I am concerned, as of this moment in time, coding can go and die! :(
So I have decide to make another change to my web page. This time it was the background that I was unhappy with. After some experimentation and trial and error, I have come up with something that I am reasonably happy with.
I have decided that the typography I drew up for my webpage wasn’t working for me. I couldn’t really work out why that was. Then after seeing an add, I realised that my type was a little too fat for my liking. So after a little bit more sketching, I came up with some typography that was a little more pleasing to my eye.
This is the new design I am working with at the moment after scrapping my old idea. It still has the hand-drawn feel to it but not as complex. I have opted for a more simple approach. Not sure if I like where this is going at the moment tho.
After watching this video by ‘Lights’ on YouTube, and also after my other idea frustrating me and not working as I wanted, I have decided to go with a new look for my web page.
So here is what I have come up with after doing a few sketches. I have gone with a hand-drawn look for the typography. Not really sure how it is going go coloured though.
Today I came up with the idea of using a nature theme for my website. Not really sure how I will go about this exactly, but I am thinking it will involve leaves and swirly lines or vines. Will have to do a few sketches to see if I can come up with anything.
The seven points that link the sites I have chosen for design reference are as follows:
1. All the web sites are centred which keeps it simple, as you only have to look at the middle of the screen as opposed to all of it.
2. A fixed width was used for all the sites, which keeps them well structured and organised.
3. Illustration features in all the sites in some form. This keeps the site visually appealing and keeps the viewer interested.
4. It is very easy to navigate these sites, with all of them featuring links that stand out, and are easy to see and read.
5. Located at either the top centre or top left on all the sites there is a click-able image or logo that takes you back to the home page. This also lets you know what site you are on.
6. A simple layout is used for all of the web pages. They are not too cluttered and confusing which prevents frustration in a viewer.
7. The imagery is appropriate for the target audience on all the web sites. This makes sure the viewer is interested and will not leave the page in disappointment.
